The aim of the workshop was to create large cardboard puppets that would form the backdrop to the schools carol service and nativity later this term in Ealing Abbey. These 'puppets' were to be inspired by the modernist simplicity of the sculptor Brancusi's artwork, simplifying form and shape to suggest a narrative.
Despite it only being October, the students enthusiastically got involved in both the designing and the making of the cardboard puppets in the spirit of Christmas. Using only cardboard and simple construction methods to give everything solidity, the students had to engineer the best possible way to make the complex structures. The puppets will be finished off during the next few weeks and then they will be seen at the carol service in December. Students from across the school took part, from Upper 1 to Sixth Form - and all their help and hard work was very much appreciated!
