We offer the Unendorsed Edexcel course in Art and Design. The reason we have chosen the Unendorsed specification is to enable students to access and explore a diverse range of art practices and ultimately choose a direction that suits each student's interest and skill set. The Unendorsed specification requires that students access at least two of the disciplines listed in their specification. These are: Fine Art, Photography, Textiles, Graphic Design,
This is a two year course comprising of coursework, 60% of students' overall GCSE mark, and an externally set timed examination, 40% of students' overall GCSE mark. The majority of the two-year course is dedicated to the production of a personal portfolio of work that is submitted as the coursework unit. This portfolio must contain evidence that meets four assessment criteria. The latter half of the final year is dedicated to the production of a body of work in response to the Edexcel-set exam brief. This is usually given to students prior to the February half-term break and culminates in a 10 hour, 2-day timed examination where students produce an outcome to their preparatory work. The time-frame for this preparatory work is around 10-12 weeks including holidays, therefore it is very important that students plan their time effectively so that they can meet all four assessment criteria fully. The assessment criteria is the same for both the coursework and the exam and is indicated below:
Assessment Objective 1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrate analytical and critical understanding.
Assessment Objective 2: Experiment with and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops
Assessment Objective 3: Record in visual and/or other forms ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, demonstrate an ability to reflect on work and progress.
Assessment Objective 4: Present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating critical understanding, realising intentions and, where appropriate, make connections between visual, written, oral or other elements.
