Pattern and Design
In time for Easter, students will understand how to design and create a pattern for an Easter Egg. This project will build on the knowledge of colour theory learned earlier in the year, by focusing on the pairing of harmonious and complementary colours.
Students will also refine and improve the colour rendering skills in creating their Easter Egg pattern.

Seasonal Change
Students will use the seasonal change from Summer to Autumn to explore basic colour theory and observational drawing techniques. During this first term students will learn how to colour mix paints and use watercolours successfully.
Students will also experiment with the wax resist and sgrafitto techniques in order to produce work that relates to the seasons changing. This will result in the installation of a collaborative tree mural in the art department.

Winter Landscapes
Continuing with the theme of seasons, students will look at narrative and through reading the storybook Snowmen at Night learn how to create a winter landscape. Students will discuss basic design skills and build on their knowledge of colour mixing by learning about hues and tones in painting.
Students will create a winter landscape scene and learn about basic composition through the placement of objects in the foreground, middle-ground and background. Texture and collage will be used to complete the winter scene.
A select number of the snowman scenes will be put forward to the St Augustines Priory Christmas Card competition, which will be run in December 2014.
