Lower V (Year 10)
During Lower V and the first part of Upper V, you will be working on the coursework element of the GCSE Art, Craft and Design course. This coursework is worth 60% of your GCSE, and it is made up of two different projects. Throughout these two coursework investigations, you will be covering the four assessment objectives, through which you will be assessed against by your teacher at various points in the year.
The four Assessment Objectives are:
AO1: Develop ideas through investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and cultural understanding
AO2: Refine ideas through experimenting and selecting appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions in visual and/or other forms
AO4: Present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating analytical and critical understanding, realising intentions and, where appropriate, making connections between visual, written, oral or other elements.

First Coursework Project: The Natural World & Metamorphisis
In this coursework project, you will cover a wide range of 2-D and 3-D making processes and techniques through exploring the theme of Natural Forms and Metamorphosis. This project begins as a teacher-led investigation, which is divided into three main sections:
1) Observational Drawing, Painting and Still Life Photography, painting and drawing will be used as a way of initially recording thoughts and objects, such as fruits and vegetables. You will look at the work of Juan Sanchez Cotan and Jeffery T Larson. 2) Natural Forms: Pattern, Print and Textiles Further ideas will then be developed from the observational starting point of flowers, and using various experimental printing processes, you will learn how to produce an etching, and a collograph. You will also develop your ideas into a reduction lino-print and a silk painting. You will also understand how to communicate and explain your experimentation and the development of ideas. You will study the work of William Morris and Gill Ricci. 3) Underwater / Metamorphosis (Project Brief) Through looking at the work of Alexander McQueen, and researching the underwater theme, you will also be expected to develop a personal response and take on an increasing amount of independence when working. Your artistic journey will be completed by the creation of an informed, meaningful and personal response.
