Lower VI (Year 12, A Level)
ART & PHOTOGRAPHY
New Specification 2015-17
If you are embarking on the new A Level course this year you must make sure you understand the requirements as they have changed somewhat. You will still be expected to make meaningful, conceptual and skilful Art/ Photography, however the written personal study is now marked separately and therefore contributes significantly to your coursework grade. You will also have longer to complete your coursework so that means the expectations for a resolved, exciting and rich body of work are even greater than before! Please refer to the New A Level Timeline document for details on how the course will be run. Additionally the mark scheme has been modified in light of the changes and new expectations. Please refer to the assessment criteria with corresponding marks for your understanding. You should also look at the assessment grid for the personal written study.

Workshops
You will embark on a series of workshops based around the theme 'Earth'. You will have already acquired many skills and experience from completing your GCSE in Art and these workshops will only add to your ever-increasing portfolio of skills and techniques. These workshops will contribute to more personalised and developed work, culminating in the production of an outcome/s by Christmas. During this time, you will also be considering possible starting points for your coursework project that will begin in January 2016.
Coursework
This contributes 60% to your overall A Level grade so work hard! Coursework themes are individual to each student and are carefully chosen following in-depth discussions with your peers and teacher. A large proportion of the academic year will be dedicated to the development of your coursework project and outcome/s will be generated in response.
All coursework should be handed into your teacher by the end of January 2017. You will also submit your final personal written study at this time.

Exam
This contributes 40% to your overall A Level grade, so again, work hard! Exam themes are externally set by Edexcel and an examination paper is generated and will be given to you in February 2017. You will have a period of 8-12 weeks to prepare a body of work in response to the set theme; this will depend on term times and exam dates. You will be expected to work during your holidays to maximise your time allocated for developing your project. Your timed examination will last for 15 hours and you will be expected to produce an outcome/s in response to your artistic journey that exhibits skill and intent. Key dates: TBC |
