Lent Term
Imaginary Creatures
The students will begin by looking at the use of symbols in Native American Haida art and markmaking from contemporary illustrator Julia Pott to design their own symbolic animals using carbon paper printing. They will then build on their understanding of aerial perspective to place their animals in a landscape with depth, using collage and watercolour.

Cultural Creatures
Near the end of the Lent term, the students will get a chance to work in pairs in 3D, mixing and matching them to design a metamorphic animal. They will then use clay to sculpt a combination of their own animals, drawing inspiration from the Oaxacan culture. They will learn about sculptural design and embellishment.
